Our Baby Update & 4th Childbirth Class

We’re only weeks away from the delivery date. There are so many things still left to do. We still need to purchase some items. Still need to assemble the baby crib. Get a car seat. Figure out how to handle the baby.
We finally assembled the two huge pieces of Ikea furniture. Special thanks to my wife’s cousin for helping us put those things together. It was fun work.
We got all the clothes and diapers ready. The toys are ready.
No more drinking or poker nights for me on the weekends. I’m on standby for my wife.
The baby is looking pretty big. The pregnancy has been pretty smooth for my wife until recently. Now, she has to pee every 30 seconds. Sometimes she has difficulty breathing. The belly tightens up every once in a while, cause some discomfort.
I think we’re about 70% ready now.
Oh, here’s a quick update from our 4th childbirth class:
-Newborns are to be bathe twice a week.
-Use petroleum jelly to reduce diaper rash. Generic store brands are fine.
-When changing diapers, shield yourself from the pee and poop. The baby will let loose while being changed.
We got to perform some tasks on a fake baby. It was fun. Pictures of “Diana” below. Next week, we’re touring the delivery area. That will be interesting.

Based on experience…always shield yourself and the baby when changing diapers! My wife had some complications suring labor and they drugged her up pretty bad for three days afterwards. She couldn’t get out of bed. So I was in charge of changing diapers. In the hospital he never let things flow when I was changing him.
At home, the first diaper I changed my boy let loose. He started peeing and it hit me in the face. I was unprepared and did not have something to cover him up. He peed all over himself… It was on his face, in his ears, in his mouth. He was screaming. It was horrible at the time, but kinda funny looking back at it. Lesson learned.

The real baby will be a lot less scary looking… and won’t like bananas. Best of luck to you and your wife as the countdown begins in earnest!
