Husbands in the Delivery Room

In the early 1900’s to 1970’s, the husbands waited in the waiting room while the wives gave birth in the delivery room. Sounds like a good deal. Something happened in the 80’s that changed all that.

Must have been the hippie love generation of 60’s and 70’s who changed everything for the men. They started having babies in the 80’s and thought it was a great idea for men to be in the delivery room. Now, it’s almost a given the husband has to be in the delivery room.

Giving birth is one of the most beautifulest things in the world. None of us would be here if our moms didn’t give birth to us. But you have to admit, it’s also one of the most gross things you will ever experience. Even the women are freak out about it. My wife and I were watching Knocked Up the other night. They had a delivery scene in the film that freaked out my wife. In the scene, you had the lady on the bed with her legs spread open and a baby’s head about to escape from her vagina. How freaky is that?

Will you be able to look at the vagina the same way again? Before having kids, the vagina was always a fun place to be at. Now it’s the place your kids came out of. I don’t mean that in a negative way. It’s just weird.

I will be in the delivery room. My strategy will involve not making eye contact with the vagina. I will be beside my wife supporting her. That’s the least I can do. After all, she’s the one caring for the baby throughout the pregnancy and actually giving birth. Too bad we can’t just lay some eggs like chickens.

Wise Man Tip: After giving birth, the placenta comes out from the vagina. Men, you probably want to avoid seeing this process unless you enjoy watching a large liver-like thing coming from the vagina.

LOL whatever……it isn’t as scary as you make it out to be. It’s all good. Have you ever seen an animal birth? I suppose for me….growing up on a farm. I am totally used to it.
I have a feeling when it is your own child’s birth, you’ll be more focused on the moment of meeting your baby, you won’t even be interested in the vagina.
    Goodluck!

I seen some on Discovery Channel and National Geographic. I never really give them a second thought. I wonder if the male animals are gross out from it too? :) The best birth ever on film was when Jim Carrey came out of a fake cow’s behind while a little kid was watching in Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls.
