Final NYU Childbirth Class

This past Thursday we had our last childbirth class. We didn’t meet at the classroom. We were given a tour of the hospital where our baby will be born.
We were first shown the testing room. This is where they hook up the pregnant ladies and determine if they are really having labor. If not, they are sent home. If they are having labor, they are sent to the delivery room. The delivery room looks like a small hotel room. You get cable tv and a bathroom in there. You’ll be in there until the baby comes out.
After the baby is born, you’re sent up to the recovering room. It was a busy night, so we didn’t get to see those rooms. They seem really tiny. Most of the rooms are doubles and there are only 4 private rooms. The private rooms cost about $200-$300 extra per night.
We saw a few babies that were just born. They were really cute. They were probably just 1 or 2 hours old.
Overall, I think the childbirth classes were very help. I would recommend first time parents to take the course. I feel much more prepared for the birth. Although, my wife is still uneasy about it.

Make sure you figure out how to work that fold out chair in the room! I wanted to lay down so bad, but couldn’t get it to fold out all the way. Finally after sleeping sitting up for a while I went and got a nurse to help out.
Get all the rest you can when in the hospital…it will be an exhausting yet exciting experience!

My wife’s water broke 3 1/2 hours after our final childbirth class. Even six months later she still loves the story. “Uh-oh…” “Zzzzz-wahh?” “My water just broke.” “Now?!”

Wow, that’s pretty amazing…3 and half hours. Right on time.
