Childbirth Class at NYU Medical Center 2

We went for the 2nd class tonight. My wife went to the restroom, while I waited for her in the reception area. A lady came through the front door apparently looking for the class we were in. Being a nice guy, I promptly pointed her to the wrong location. Luckily my wife came out of the restroom in time to point her to where we were supposed to be.

The instructor started off the night talking about the cervix area. How it expands from the size of an index finger to a lime to a lemon to a tangerine to a softball to a bowling ball to a basketball. Maybe not the size of a bowling ball or a basketbal, but still big.For the first hour, my wife and I were battling sleep. We both were pretty sleepy.

Then she spoke about epidural. She said over 93% of the moms went the epidural path. There are pros and cons to epidural. I don’t think she went through them because I can’t recall anything about it. Just that the needle goes into the spinal for a second. That sounds pretty painful.

The wifey was about to snore because she so sleepy. Silly girl. We were taught some breathing exercises. This woke me up because we had to stand in front of each other and my wife’s breathe was kicking. Garlic and onion.

We finish the night watching a video. VERY GRAPHIC. The instructor lied to us saying it wasn’t going to be bloody or anything. Man, we saw EVERYTHING. From the baby’s head peeking out the vagina to the body sticking out to the scary placenta coming out. When the baby comes out, it’s covered in some white creamy mucous. Not a very pleasant sight. Not so cute yet.

Good thing we saw this, now we know what to expect and not get scared.

oh and not all babies have the white mucus on them. Mine didn’t. :)
oh and I skipped the epi…..I felt it was better for my baby to be drug free. Hurt like hell…but I survived. :)
