4D Ultrasound for Our Baby

My wife went for a 4D ultrasound today. It was not medically necessary, but she had always wanted to do it from the beginning. Insurance was does not cover it because it’s an elective procedure. The total cost was $225, it included a 25 minute DVD of the session that was extended to almost 40 minutes. Numerous printouts of the different images were also included.

The procedure is very similar to regular old 2D ultrasound. You sit or lay down on the doctor’s table. They put some cold gel on your belly. Almost instantly a scary face pop up on the screen. Because it takes time to get a good angle, the first shots we saw were horrible. The baby’s face looked very weird. My wife did not like what she saw.

After a few minutes of fumbling around, we finally got a few good shots. It was pretty cool seeing our son’s face in the monitor. He had his hands around his face. At times, he looked like he was sucking on his finger. My wife was very relief to see a normal face instead of the monster looking thing earlier. She said the baby looks like me.

I thought it was a fun experience. It’s like getting a sneak peek of a movie coming out soon.

Check out some of the 4D ultrasounds below:

Note - I did not include our baby’s picture here.
