The winner of the 2007 Rubik’s Cube World Championship is Yu Nakajima(16) from Japan. The event took place in the birthplace of Rubik’s Cube, Hungary. A kid from the U.S. came in second place, Andrew Kang.

The inventor Mr. Rubik was also on hand for the 25th anniversary Championships. He invented the puzzle back in 1974. It made its debut in America in 1980. More than 300 million cubes has been sold since then, making it the world’s biggest-selling toy ever.

I remember when I was a kid and played around with the cube. I don’t believe I ever finish solving it. I just painted the sides and it’s done. The winner’s average time to solve the puzzle was 12.46 seconds. That’s pretty amazing. The shocking part to me was that the winner took home only $7,000. Prize money for food eating contests are way more than that. The world record time was set by a Frenchman, who solved it in 9.86 seconds.

I think I’ll purchase a cube again and give it a real try. If I can’t finish it, I’ll pass it down to my kid. If he can’t finish it, I’ll paint it again.
