Flying with a baby

Flying with a baby

Babies 2 years old and younger fly for free on most airlines if they stay in the parent’s lap. It’s a big money saver for the parents. I think it’s great for the shorter flights, but not so great on longer flights.

The parent’s lap and arms will fatigue after a few hours. It’s going to get uncomfortable.

There is one big problem with flying without an extra seat for your child. There are no child restraints while on your lap. This can be very dangerous because of turbulence during the flight. You don’t want to be juggling your baby in mid-flight. You also don’t want to crush your baby while holding your baby like a running back. With the extra seat, you can attach your car seat to the chair. This would be much safer.

Must be very difficult during meal times and when someone reclines all the way back. Anyone with experiences on this? Leave a comment.

Wise Man Tip: You NEED an extra seat if your kid looks like this. No offense, it’s for your own safety.

I have never flown with my child. It just doesn’t sound like fun…so I’ll avoid it. LOL

I fly a lot for work and I don’t ever remember seeing a car seat strapped into one of the airplane seats. I always see the baby in his/her parent’s arms.

Hopefully I won’t be flying with my son until he is older, but you made me curious, so I did a little reading. Looks like the car seat has to be FAA approved and can not be any more than 16 inches wide to fit in a coach seat.

I found this website which explained it a bit:
