Crossing the Street

cross street

Growing up in New York City, I seen many things. One of the things that still annoy the crap out of me is when I see parents jaywalking with their children.

Crossing the streets in New York City is dangerous enough for adults because of the amount of vehicles and noise. Now imagine jaywalking across the streets while pushing a stroller or carrying a kid. You not only put yourself in danger, you’re putting your kid’s life on the line. It’s just plain stupid on the parents part.

Little kids look up to their parents as role models. If their role models are crossing the streets with no regard to traffic lights, they will do the same. Let’s not get them on a bad habit at such a young age. Walking across the street is such a common occurrence that we take it for granted. We tend to forgot that these vehicles weight thousands of pounds and are moving at a high rate of speed. I am not against jaywalking in general. I do it myself occasionally. But when I’m out with my wife(the baby still in the belly), I make sure we wait for the walk signals. Let’s set a good example for our children.

Wise Man Tip: Don’t jaywalk in LA, they give out the most jaywalking tickets.
Wise Man Tip 2: Don’t jaywalk in Manhattan at night while intoxicated.
