Golden Age of Cartoons.

Maybe I’m bias, but I would say the 80’s cartoon kick today’s cartoon’s ass. There was definitely more violence in those cartoons. But it was in good fun. Here’s a list of them off my head:

  • Transformers - Da Best. Even the new movie was awesome.
  • G.I. Joe - Good army recruitment propaganda.
  • Smurfs - Made Saturday mornings fun.
  • He-Man and the Masters of the Universe - Skeletor is an awesome villain.
  • Scooby Doo -Nice lil ghost mystery.
  • Alvin and the Chipmunks - OK after school cartoon.
  • Ducktales - Great after school cartoon.
  • Loony Tunes - Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck are role models.
  • Woody Wood Packer - Don’t remember any episodes, but can’t forget him.
  • The Jetsons - A glance into our future.
  • The Flintstones - A glance into our past.
  • Voltron: Defender of the Universe - They’re making a movie soon.
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Michelangelo was my favorite.
  • Mighty Mouse - Good for the smaller kids.
  • Inspector Gadget - Did not translate well into a movie.
  • Thundercats - The flying fat cat was funny.

I’m probably missing out a few good ones. Now, can today’s cartoon compare to that list? I think not. The 80’s were the Golden Age of Cartoons.

I totally agree. I turn on cartoons sometimes for my son on Saturday mornings. We get the Noggin channel and he seems to enjoy those. At least they are educational. But I just don’t get what is so appealing about Sponge Bob and Telle Tubbies. They kind of annoy me. :)

I agree but you’re missing the amazing and talented Bugs Bunny! Some of the cartoons my son watches are tolerable - i enjoy Fosters Home for Imaginary…pets? friends? i always get that wrong and Fairly Odd Parents are quite OK. Fosters has actually made me LOL! It’s one we refer to and quote regularly. But still…nothing beats Bugs.
OH i thought of one this weekend - remember Hanna-Barbarra? The Laugh Olympics? SuperFriends and the Hall of Justice! excellent shows…

I put Bugs Bunny under Loony Tunes, look again. He does deserve his own line though. Bugs bunny made silly rabbits cool.

Oh gosh - I am ashamed to say I remember watching the snorks! Smurfs were awesome though LOL!

Does anyone remember the Noozles with the 2 magical koala bears or Fraggle Rock? Those shows were awesome.

  7. Man Says:

Oh yeah, Fraggle Rock…they’re like muppets. I don’t recall Noozles.

  8. brutto Says:

Remember at the end of the opening credits the dozer guy would go “Down in fraggle rock.” Also what was up with the talking trash heaps that the fraggles would go see? Dude that show was way out there!…. Wow I can’t believe nobody said Tom & Jerry. Talk about violent yet hilarious!!!
